DIRE: Charlie - 7/1998

After being hidden on the shared list with no update since he was 6 yrs old, Charlie gets a chance to introduce himself to prospective families through a video. He needs a family to commit to him by late June. He turns 14 on July 31, 2012.

DIRE! Leon - 04/1998

 

We need a prayer and advocacy campaign these next few days for Leon  - a wonderful 13 yr old boy in Guangdong province, Shenzhen City CWI. He has repaired CHD. Leon needs a family to commit to him this coming week! If you have been considering and researching older child adoption and can make this leap of faith - please consider Leon!

A friend wanted to share that they sent his file to a friend of theirs who is a heart surgeon this is what he wrote back:

"In answer to your query regarding Leon,he may always remain small. He has murmurs over three valves in his heart, which may mean he could need further surgeries when he is older. It is encouraging that they do not describe any heart failure signs or symptoms, which may indicate that he may need nothing further done. Without examining him further, I can't be more precise. He seems healthy, active and well adjusted."

Leon has a strong ability to express himself, and always say hello to others. He gets along well with others. He has 3 good friends he likes to play wtih. He loves to read comic books and loves the characters in the book. He can draw the characters in the books with good detail. His learning ability is strong and careful. He is optimistic, friendly, gregarious, and smart. He is post-operative for Tetralogy of Fallot and his heart exams appear normal. The orphanage has agreed to waive the orphanage donation fee for any family who adopts Leon.

This is one handsome guy! He's on the shared list.

Lucky is a Lucky guy!

Lucky - 8/1998

Lucky is 13 years old. He is a Hep B carrier. Lucky is noted to be a very friendly boy with an excellent temperament. He has learned English in school and loves to play basketball. He is extroverted and obedient. He hopes to be in the Special Forces when he grows up. He wants to be adopted and come to the U.S. He hopes his family will be warm and happy. Lucky is close friends with Ned and Dusty who have found their families. Please help find Lucky's family!

Oliver is in 7th grade in the special education school where English is his favorite subject. His caregiver reports he has a difficult time focusing, but it may be because it seems he has some difficulty hearing. Oliver continually asked for questions to be repeated and watched the lips of the person talking.

His caregiver said his hearing is normal and that he was just nervous, but he said he sometimes can’t hear what is being said. He has not had speech therapy, but Oliver will likely need it due to his post operative cleft lip and palate. He likes watching TV. He enjoys reading comic books, and Batman is his favorite superhero. His favorite sport is basketball and Oliver loves a hamburger.

There is up to $9500 in financial aid available (including a $4200 Promise Child grant for eligible families for this adoption and the possibility of up to $5300 in fee waivers).

DIRE: Kate - March 1998

I am highlighting Kate again.  Her time is VERY short! She ages out in the middle of March.  At this time, to be able to bring Kate home, a family would have to already have a dossier in China.  You do NOT have to already be approved for two by USCIS - you can submit a Supplement 3 for this and have it approved in time.  The family most likely needs to submit LOI for her by Friday 2/10 to have time to finalize all of the paperwork.

Three years ago, a passerby found Kate wandering a mountain park in southern China.  A 10-year-old girl, dressed in a pink coat and pants, Kate was found all alone.  At barely 50 lbs, with a greenish-yellow cast to her skin, she seemed weak and small for her age.  The stranger contacted the police.  After an unsuccessful search for her birth family, they sent her to a social welfare institute in Guangxi province.

At the institute, Kate was found to have severe anemia caused by beta thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder. After a blood transfusion, both her health and appetite improved.  Her youthful color came back to her skin, and she showed more spirit and energy.  She sang songs and drew pictures of the sun and moon, of stars and flowers.  She seemed shy, but happy.

For two years, Kate lived in the children’s institute, where caregivers found her to be polite and helpful.  Although she had received little formal education, she began to study embroidery and knitting, learning quickly.  In 2010, Kate went to live with a foster family and also started school.

In the three years since Kate was found weak and alone, she has come so far.  Although she couldn’t write when she entered care, her teachers say she studies hard and often receives full marks on her assignments.  She gets along well with her foster mom, loves to play outside with her foster sister, and often invites her classmates over to play.  Kate is still playing catch-up.  She is still small in size, and behind her peers educationally.  But with monthly blood transfusions and the loving care of a foster family, her health is strong and her spirits are high.

She hopes to be adopted into a permanent family, who should be patient and understanding of older child adoption and its impact on behavior and learning skills.

DIRE - Kyle 2/1998 - Update

Kyle needs a family to submit LOI for him in the next 7 days or he will lose his chance at a family FOREVER!!!

Here is some more information on Kyle from a family that met him:

He wanted to be adopted by my wife for sure.  He bonded with her during a orphans camp that she volunteered at this last July.  It was in Yantai.  I believe that he could still bond with another family. 

He loves basketball and airplanes.

He has not been in the orphanage all his life.  He was placed there three years ago after his mother's death.  His father died when he was about two.  His surviving family is unable to support him.

He won't talk about his mother's death.  Some of his family believe he may have witnessed it.

He is respectful and mature.

By the way, his only special need is his age.  He is normal in all accounts as far as we know.

URGENT - Shannon 2/98

Shannon is 13, in the 7th grade, is smart and does well in school. She likes to take walks and jump rope, and she lives in Guangxi. She has mild cerebral palsy (a slight limp and some weakness in one hand). She has been pleading for a family to adopt her, and her orphanage has finally decided to give her a shot, and is rushing to prepare her adoption papers! She needs a committed family to step up NOW to adopt her by Feb 27th! A family with LID can do it!

Zeke - March 1998

I want to tell you about Zeke----a precious 13 year old boy who is aging out in March of next year (2012). Just like Alex, he comes to our house all the time. He has missing ears, but has some hearing. He doesn't wear any aids or use sign language. He goes to normal school. He's had surgery, where they took some rib and skin from his chest to fashion ears so that he looked a little more normal. He is sooooooooooooo wonderful! I've waited to advocate for him because I had hoped to adopt him myself. That hasn't worked out, so please please please--I know his family is out there.

 

This child will bring so much joy to your life. He is the best friend of my son. His paperwork is in the
process of being sent to Guangzhou because after Alex was adopted the orphanage agreed to try again with Zeke. He wants a family so badly. He loves to draw and my whole house is decorated with his art work. He loves our pug, Sam:) He always insists on helping me in the kitchen (cook, clean, etc...) He keeps me laughing. He's a great kid. I'll send photos, I just wanted to get the word out immediately. His paperwork should be ready any day now.

 

This child will steal your heart. He constantly asks me, "Am I good? Do you want me?" I've cried many tears over this child. He came to the center when he was 8 years old. Everyone at the center loves him. He is a good child and well behaved. He is constantly teased by the other children because of his ears. He was a good friend of Alex. I would completely trust him around any other younger children.

Corey - 2/1998

Corey lived with a foster family from the day he was found until 2009 when they were not able to care for him any longer. Corey is in the 6th grade and likes Math and English classes. He likes to play badminton and ping pong for fun. Corey is popular among his classmates and is always willing to help others. He is also popular amongst the younger children at the orphanage, and often leads them in playing games. They call him older brother and like him a lot. He is praised by his teachers as a good and sensible child. He is an intelligent child and is well loved at the orphanage and they hope he can have a happy home. Corey is on the shared list, but there is a $5000 grant available through ASIA for him.

Justin - March 1998

I wanted to introduce some of you to Justin .  He only has 4 months to find a family.   He is wonderful with children.  He is postoperative for cerebral palsy, but he is able to walk and play.  He does about 40 minutes of therapy a night to help strengthen his body.

 

Justin is a detail-oriented child with independent thinking. He likes to take care of children younger than he is. He acts as a big brother in doing it and he is very thoughtful and caring to other children. He is hard-working too. He loves helping with family chores such as bed-making, laundry, and dish washing. He’s very independent in daily life. He keeps his stuff clean and organized.

 

He has a hearty appetite and eats a large amount of food. He has never been picky in eating. He sleeps well and he has been healthy. He rarely gets sick. He’s not afraid of cold.

 

He studies hard and attentively. The first thing he wants to do after school is to finish his home works. He’s very patient in answering other children’s questions.

 

He’s longing for a family. He’s confident that he will have one.  He’s ready for it.

 

He is on the shared list - however WACAP has a generous grant for his adoption for an eligble family (need to go thru WACAP for their grant) There is a $4,200 Promise Child grant for eligible families for this adoption. There is also an additional $5000 available for this child’s adoption from a generous donor. Families of all incomes may apply for this grant. Shanna - Jan 1998

She is 13 years old and attends classes at the orphanage, which she enjoys, and she says her favorite class is Chinese. She likes to read comic books and her favorite food is hum bao. She likes to use a computer to play games and to help the nannies with chores that need to be done. She enjoys running and when she grows up she wants to be a teacher and help kids learn how to draw. Her left foot turns out when she walks, but her caregivers say that she is very independent and can do many physical activities including toileting by herself. They describe her as very thoughtful, caring, smart and kind. She is very skillful in taking things apart and putting them back together. She is very helpful to the caregivers and if she sees an adult, she will try to help out by offering them water. She currently lives at the orphanage and said that she wants to be adopted by a good family.

URGENT: Hillary - 2/1998

Hillary gets along well with her classmates, knows to share her pencil with others who does not have. She knows to sweep the floor actively. Once, the caretaker gets ill, and tells Hillary she wants to go home and resign from the institute. Hillary hold her hands and says “please don’t leave, please pass the disease to me, I want to get ill instead of you”. And then she cries. She does not sleep for the whole night, and stays beside the caretaker. She is a sensitive girl, knows to greet the staff in the institute. She is introverted, quiet, shy, and not talkative in front of strangers, but would give you a sweet smile. She likes to play games with children at her age, is fond of rope skipping and kicking shuttlecock. Hillary has oval face, a pair of bright and large eyes, thick and black hair. She is thin, and is a sensitive girl.

Hillary is on the shared list but is being advocated for by Madison. Her file states that she has "mental nerve development delay." It sounds like she had TB at some point, and they are saying that caused her mental delay. The information in her file does not appear to support this diagnosis.  She also has polydactyly of one hand I think.

David - June 1998

"David" has been waiting his entire life for a family. He was born in 1998 in southwest China. This boy is enjoyable and energetic. When my friend visits the orphanage, he is always eager to get out and play soccer, volleyball or whatever sport anyone will play with him. David is quiet and enjoys drawing. The orphanage director says he is quite mature and very smart. David has amazing potential to be a strong leader.
His special need is cleft lip and palate.

He has stated repeatedly that he wants to be adopted! He wants a family!

He only has about 10 months to be adopted. In China, children are not allowed to be adopted when they turn 14 years old.

His care takers say he is very clean, he helps the teachers clean up after school ends, he loves school, loves doing his homework. He loves little kids and will help feed the younger children.

Jonathon was born in 1998 in southwest China. After being abandoned by his parents at birth, he went straight to the hospital. The doctor said this boy doesn't have long for life. He not only survived but he is now a thriving young boy with amazing potential. He is in 7th grade and is a hard worker. His passions are studying, sports and people. This guy is a thinker. The orphanage director says he thinks even more than many adults. The director also says he is a perfectionist.
Each time my friend goes to the orphanage he is welcoming, friendly and quite helpful.

He has stated repeatedly that he wants to be adopted! He wants a family!

His special need was cleft lip and palate. He has had 3 surgeries to repair his mouth. The 3rd surgery was plastic surgery.

His file states: He is liked by teachers. He likes to answer the questions. He is always the first one to finish the homework. He has no special needs. He is considerate and self-esteemed. He is the cleverest one in his roommates. He always helps caretakers to feed younger children. He also helps caretakers with cleaning. He is a considerate child. Caretakers in SWI all like him.
